Targeted care for chronic pelvic pain related to pelvic venous congestion.
OVERVIEW
In women, some cases of infertility may be caused by a blocked fallopian tube. If a gynecologist has performed a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) and it shows a blockage, you may be a candidate for fallopian tube recanalization.
SAVI doctors use a nonsurgical procedure to treat these blockages. A small plastic tube (catheter) is passed through the cervix into the uterus. A contrast dye is injected through the catheter to allow the radiologist to examine the uterine cavity using fluoroscopic X-ray. Once the blockage has been located, a smaller catheter is threaded through the first catheter using a tiny wire, and the blockage in the tube is cleared.
Many women go on to successful pregnancies after fallopian tube recanalization.
Mayfair’s interventional radiologists perform general IR procedures at Rockyview General Hospital and interventional vascular procedures at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary.
